Jen Jacobs (she/her) is a Director, Teaching Artist, Singer, and overall Creator.
Jen is a freelance Director currently based on the east coast. She is also the Associate Artistic Director and Co-Founder of the National Children’s Theatre.
Some recent Directing credits include: Matilda Jr. (Alden Theatre), Shadow of Success (Woolly Mammoth Hall), James and the Giant Peach Jr. (UDC Theatre of the Arts), Safe Hands: A New Musical (Off-Broadway-SheNYC), Drown The Muse (Capital Fringe), Dear Edwina Jr (Murch Elementary), Stop and Think, Please (Mosaic Theatre Company- New Play Reading Series), Stef and Arno (Spooky Action Theater-We Are Not Alone Reading Series). She has also worked as Associate Director on several productions including Postmortem (dir. Sheryl Kaller, Mosaic Theater Company), Over Her Dead Body (dir. Kevin Place, Capital Fringe/Edinburgh Festival Fringe), Cabaret (dir. Jenna Place, Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theatre), The Chameleon (dir. Ellie Heyman- Theater J), The Cherry Orchard (dir. Aaron Posner- STC Academy) ,and served as Assistant to the Director on Here There Are Blueberries (dir. Moisés Kaufman- Shakespeare Theatre Company and Tectonic Theater Project).
Jen is also a freelance Young Performer Supervisor. Recent YPS credits include Evita (STC), The Jungle (STC), Once Upon A One More Time (STC), and Our Town (STC).
Jen also has experience in Intimacy Coordination, including on upcoming Young Frankenstein and Footloose at Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theatre, Safe Hands (Off Broadway-SheNYC) and The Cherry Orchard (STC Academy).
Jen is the former Education Programs/Production Assistant at Theater J and has worked a variety of different jobs at theaters around both Washington, DC and New York City. She is also a teaching artist in residence at Shakespeare Theatre Company and Theater J.
Jen has appeared on stage in a number of productions. Most recently she can be seen on the virtual stage as Jessica in District Merchants (Theater at CBT and Globe Openstage) and as Dolly in Safe Hands: A Virtual Musical Event. Other credits include Nurse in the world premiere of Rachel Kitzinger and Eamon Grennan’s new translation of Sophocles’ Women of Trachis (Vassar), Bib in Alabaster (Vassar), Anna in Spring Awakening (Vassar), and Georgia in Curtains (Pebble Players).
She graduated from Vassar College with a BA in Drama and History (Honors). She is an alumnus of New York Stage and Film’s Powerhouse Training Program as a Directing Apprentice as well as London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) Classical Acting Semester Program. She was a Directing Fellow at Shakespeare Theatre Company in 2021.
